Denise Young is in France, where the education system focuses on creating hierarchies and elites based on obsolete criteria, where children are drained of passion and the desire to take risk after years of never-ending school days and perpetual evaluation, emerging at age 18 like ghosts, unable to locate an authentic self or any kind of compass for the crucial life choices that lie ahead. Disruptive change in education should be everyone’s first priority and it should be at the centre of any meaningful debate on sustainability. Do we grok the 21st century? And if not, why not?
